DENTON, TX - In a must win game two of the College Basketball Innovational, the North Texas Mean Green hosted the University of San Francisco Dons. After dropping game 1 of the best of 3 series on Monday night, the Mean Green were victorious by a final score of 69-55
The Mean Green,who have been dominate at the Super Pit all year long jumped out to a 27-16 point lead with just over eight minutes left in the first half. After jumping out to an 11 point lead, North Texas would go 0-11 in the field for seven minutes and the Dons tied the game at 31 points with just under 4 minutes to play. North Texas entered the half time break with a 33-31 lead over San Francisco.
North Texas would have a 10-0 run to start the second half and would not look back, earning a 12 point advantage just five minutes into the second half. At one point during the second half, the Mean Green had an 18 point lead and had complete control of the game from that point on. Even though San Francisco out shot the Mean Green from three point range, North Texas’ ability to control the paint and with a large advantage in rebounds helped the Mean Green control the pace of the game. North Texas held on the defeat the Dons 69-55 and force a game 3 Friday night at the Super Pit.
Jorden Duffy led North Texas with 15 points in game two along with 9 rebounds. Zachary Simmons also had a big night with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
North Texas improves to a 19-18 overall record for the 2017-2018 campaign and are one win away from a CBI tournament championship.
Game 3 of the CBI final round is on Friday, March 30th at the Super Pit with a 7:30 pm tip-off. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
