In a surprise turn around, President Trump has just reversed a proposal to slash Special Olympics. This goes against his secretary Betsy Devos’ initial budget plan to slash Special Olympic programming as a part of a seven-billion-dollar budget cut to the Education Department.
Trump said he will continue funding the program. UNT’s associate professor in educational psychology says its more than just a game.
This comes as a win for over 272,000 students that participate in the program thanks to federal funding. This reversal came in moments after his administration faced intense scrutiny for their budget proposal to cut 7 billion dollars in education department spending, with special Olympics being one of them.
