The s-curve on Hickory Creek is considered to be one of the most dangerous roads in Denton county and according to the Denton Record Chronicle, a serious crash has happened there at least once every three months.
There have been several safety precautions put into place such as guard rails at the curves, as well as rumble strips and signs to tell drivers to slow down, but there is still the question of how to make it even more safe after the death of UNT student Lucas Tucker and brothers Daniel and Diego Rivera.
The road is shared by both Denton County and the City of Denton and while they have already begun making changes to increase safety like adding guardrails on the straightaways as well as the curves, bigger changes are still to come.
While the rain has caused some delays, the long-term plan is to straighten the road to make navigating it easier as well as rejecting new plans for homes in the area. Hopefully, this will ease some of the traffic that builds up on Hickory Creek as well as decrease the number of serious crashes.
