Hey everybody, I don't know about you but this has been a very BIG adjustment for me. EVERYTHING is so
uncertain now. As a senior who was supposed to graduate in May, sometimes, it feels like I am in a nightmare that I can't wake up from. However, I know that I am not alone in feeling this way and guess what, neither are you! You got a friend in me, pal. *cue Toy Story theme song* I try to remind myself every day that what we are going through does not pale in comparison to what billions of people are going through globally. NEWSFLASH: You do not have to find a cure for cancer or be the next Steve Jobs during this season. It's okay to cry it off, binge it off, laugh about it, eat your weight in cookie dough... We are living through unprecedented times that the generations before us have never witnessed. It's okay to be human.
3 TIPS TO GET YOU THROUGH THE UNCERTAINTY
Okay, now that you've cried it all out... It's important to grieve, but it is equally important to make sure that your mental health is in check. Here are three tips to get you through these times of uncertainty.
1. SPEAK UP
If you are anything like me, whenever you are struggling with something you keep to yourself and you usually don't tell anybody because you don't want to seem "weak". Look around! Someway, somehow, EVERYONE has been affected by this pandemic. (and if you say you aren't you're probably lying to yourself or you're not aware of it- become aware) People are not mindreaders, no one can help you unless you tell them what you're going through. Don't be afraid to speak up and when you do, make sure you confide to someone you trust.
2. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL
I know that this is a hard tip. I won't be able to walk across the stage on May 9th, gain more
experience at my internships, or even attend my ring ceremony. But all of this is out of my control. There is no point in dwelling on the things we can not change. Instead, focus on what IS certain, like staying healthy by practicing social distancing, building stronger relationships with friends and family, seeking out future job opportunities, building your brand, etc.
We WILL come out of this stronger.
3. STAY ACTIVE
In order to manage the stress and anxiety that comes with these trying times, we MUST stay active! Whatever that means to you... Whether it's running a mile every day, walking your dog around the block, experimenting in the kitchen, playing Animal Crossing, or doing lunges to the kitchen to get that third piece of cake. We must stay active, not only to stay mentally sane, but also physically healthy as well. It is so important to breathe in some fresh air at some point during the day to get our minds off of the chaos.
Personally, I have been walking and running with my dog, Cash. (Here is Cash after one walk around the block. He looks like we just ran a marathon.)
Take a picture of what you're doing to stay mentally & physically healthy and post it in the comments below so that together we can be encouraged!
REMINDER: You're not alone! We are in this together and together we will get through it!
