During this time, I have traveled back home to be with family, which definitely comes with many pros, but a few cons as well. Where I live, the closest Starbucks is a thirty minute drive versus when being in Denton where I have it at my fingertips. I also have become spoiled to my nespresso machine with another attachment in my apartment, to where the Keurig game just does not compare. Although, having plenty of time at home, I have been able to master some at-home coffee tricks to continue to enjoy my three cups of caffeine a day while in quarantine.
Below I have a few tips and tricks on how to make coffee at home even more enjoyable:
If you do not have a milk frother at home, don’t worry! You can still have a make-shift warm cup of coffee as if you just got it from the Starbucks next door. Add your milk or creamer/and sweetener of choice to your coffee mug and pop it into the microwave for 20-30 seconds to warm it up some. From here, you can go ahead and pour your coffee or brew it right on top of the warm milk, or take it to the next level by using an electric hand mixer for a more foamy texture!
A good iced coffee or more like iced latte trick that is probably my favorite is to brew a more concrete cup of coffee by using a stronger brew option/button and adding a little more grinds that you normally would. Brew a smaller amount that would be equivalent to the strength of an espresso shot. Fill your glass with ice and you prefer milk or sweetener. Top with your “espresso shot” and if you want something extra you can top with a caramel drizzle or a dash of cinnamon.
Lastly, to spice up your at-home coffee game, try different flavors of coffee, different brewing methods such as a french press or pour over option. By changing up the way you make your cup of coffee, you will never get tired of making your coffee at home. Also, don’t forget to support local coffee places if you just need to get a sip of something else!
