With all this corona craziness going around I thought I would share some of my favorite albums that have been keeping me sane through the days. First of all, so many artists are dropping music left and right, and I’m living for it. Some of my favorites include The Slow Rush by Tame Impala, After Hours by the Weeknd, The New Abnormal by the Strokes, Colores by J Balvin, and YHLQMDLG by Bad Bunny. These are only a few of the albums that have been released this year, and they’re very different from each other yet they’re captivating. The Slow Rush has a psychedelic, dreamy, techni-color feel to it. The Slow Rush is Kevin Parker’s fourth album after the release of his album Currents in 2015.
The Weeknd’s album After Hours has a dark, moody, vibe to it with solid beats. The songs take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, it’s something you can take late night drives to. I think one of my favorite things about this album is the visuals it comes with. Abel Tesfaye made several music videos/ shorts that go in a certain order showing the story behind the music.
The New Abnormal was released by the Strokes april 10th, and the music on this album is a real feel-good type of music, it has retro sounds and can make your head bop to the beat. J Balvin’s album Colores is based on the idea of colors. Each song is named after a color and follows the vibe of those colors. The album is fun, filled with solid latin beats you can definitely dance to. My favorite song on the album is Rojo (red), it feels so alive and free.
Lastly, Bad Bunny came out with the album YHLQMDLG which stands for Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana, and it means I Do Whatever I Want. The album is again filled with a lot of danceable beats, and focuses on different issues including the past and present of reggaeton.
These are only a few of the albums released this year but they’re some of my personal favorites. Be sure to check them out, and stay safe!
